Toumani Diabate - Malian Kora Player (Musician)
Toumani Diabaté was born on August 10, 1965. He comes from a long family tradition of kora players including his father Sidiki Diabaté who recorded the first ever kora album in 1970. In 1987, Diabate made his first appearance on an album in the UK , on Ba Togoma, an album featuring his father's ensemble. He still plays the kora today. In 1999 Diabaté released an album called The New Ancient Strings. The album went on to win the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Traditional World Music Album. Toumani is a dark colored man. He is tall and has black hair.
